So… here’s a little about the film.
The Los Angeles Times ran a long piece about how we met Risa Bejarano. Risa grew up in foster care. Her stepfather sexually abused her, her mother had a long history of drug abuse and she had been bouncing around the system since she was 9. She went on her own when she turned 18. We met Risa when she became a subject in one of our old documentaries, Aging Out, about teenagers who left the foster care system.
Then Risa was killed in cold blood because she happened to be the witness to a crime. The wrong place at a wrong time. The suspect in the crimes, an 18-year-old named Juan Chavez, faced the death penalty. The judge in his case was Lance Ito, best known for overseeing the infamous OJ Simpson murder trial.
Then we found out Aging Out was being used as a central piece of evidence in the death penalty trial.
How did we react to this? We made a film about it. Enter No Tomorrow.
